Eye Camps Continue!

We just completed our 10TH free eye camp and we cannot thank you all enough for your support in making this happen!

SMAF continues to conduct our free eye camps in the poverty stricken remote areas of Pakistan. 184 patients received cataract surgeries and hundreds more received additional eye care during our 10th camp!

Rebirth of Indigenous Trees

SMAF is ecstatic to announce the undertaking of a sacred campaign in 2021 – “The Preservation of Native Indigenous Plants and Trees”. Native trees are those that occur naturally in a particular region. Without these plants and the insects that co-evolve with them, local birds cannot survive.

In an effort to preserve these trees in danger of becoming extinct, SMAF has donated 30,000 indigenous plants and trees for the new Government College campus in Lahore, Pakistan. The planting is currently underway! More to share on this soon!

SMAF Eye Camp #2- Results

The 2nd SMAF Free Eye Camp held at the Taluka District Hospital in Ratodero, Sindh, Pakistan was a huge success! Over 1,000 patients arrived after the news was spread of Eye Camp #2. We hope that this improved vision allows each patient to have a more dignified and independent life and encourages them to help their communities.

  • Over 900 patients received eye check ups and treatments ranging from medications to prescription/non-prescription glasses.

  • An additional 114 patients received cataract surgeries with the latest technology using intraocular lenses.

All those who have received treatment have been scheduled for follow up visits with the ophthalmologists as well.

We cannot thank you all enough for your continuous support and encouragement and we are looking forward to Eye Camp #3.

Eye Camp #3 is tentatively scheduled for June 2020. If you wish to contribute to Eye Camp #3 please consider donating.

Special thanks to our team of volunteers. Eye Camp #2 would not have been possible without you! Here are some photos from the successful two day event:

Here’s a recap from Eye Camp #1:

More than 1,900 individuals received free eye checkups and a wide range of ophthalmic care, including medications, supplies and vision screenings with over 500 pairs of glasses gifted. Additionally, over 180 cataract surgeries using intraocular (IOL) lenses were successfully performed.

7-8 news outlets and several newspapers were attracted to the camp!

The local news covered the event to help spread awareness. They describe the Eye Clinic and the plethora of free services provided including surgeries, glasses, vision screen. They go on to discuss that the clinic was done in order to honor Gulae and encouraged all to attend!
Attendees of the Camp were interviewed and expressed their gratitude for providing such a great service. They’re describing that they don’t have enough money to get medical care and they thank god for the foundation and send their blessings.

SMAF Projects

Hello friends of the Sophia Mahmood Ali Foundation! We are ecstatic to celebrate the successful projects undertaken by SMAF! Here’s a recap of just a few…

None of these projects, and numerous others around the world, would have been possible without your support. We can’t thank you enough!

Here is a snapshot of our projects

  1. Phase 2 of our “A Sip of Life” project is well underway with 50 additional water pumps being installed in memory of departed loved ones.
  2. Our Second “Eye Camp” in the remote area of the Sindh Province will occur February 15th-16th.
  3. We’re continuing to renovate and develop Gulae Mahmood Elementary/Middle School.
  4. Once again, SMAF will provide meal packages to families during the month of Ramadan.

Previous Year’s Recap:

  • Through our “A Sip of Life” project, we were able to install 35 water pumps in remote villages in the South Punjab District of Pakistan, where clean drinking water was not readily available.
  • We held our first “Eye Camp” where more than 1,900 individuals received free eye checkups and a wide range of ophthalmic care, including medications, supplies and vision screenings with over 500 pairs of glasses gifted. Additionally, over 180 cataract surgeries using intra-ocular (IOL) lenses were successfully performed.
  • During Ramadan, we surpassed our original target of distributing 200 meal packages by providing over 1,000 packages by the end of the month!
  • The Foundation gifted more than 100 girls from Munirabad with colorful new outfits, jewelry, henna, and shoes to wear while celebrating the end of Ramadan with their families.
  • “Gulae’s Garden” has continued to grow with trees in celebrations of life and in memory of lost ones.  We have reached four continents so far. This is one of the major initiatives of SMAF and we encourage all our followers to please continue to support this effort.

Eye Camp

The Sophia Mahmood Ali Foundation held its first Free Eye Clinic in Southern Punjab!  The turn out was more than what we could hope for with more than 1,900 individuals without access to health care in attendance for the 3 day event.

Those in need received free treatment spanning a wide range of ophthalmic care including medications, supplies, vision screens with 500 pairs of glasses gifted and over 180 corrective surgeries performed! We are infinitely blessed to have had a fantastic team of volunteers and healthcare providers in Pakistan who went above and beyond to help the local communities!  We hope that this is the first of many healthcare oriented clinics and pledge to continue to sponsor more in the years to come Insha’Allah. As always, we are sincerely thankful to you; our friends and family who continue to support the foundation and help us honor our Gulae! Please continue with us on this journey

Eid Mubarak

If you knew Gulae, you know that she loved getting dressed up more than anyone! This Eid, in her honor,  The Foundation gifted more than 100 girls from Munirabad, Pakistan with an Eid surprise. The girls received colorful new outfits, jewelry, henna, and shoes to wear while celebrating the end of Ramadan with their families. Many of the young girls from this area do not have the means to get new clothes so we wanted to bring them some extra joy this holiday season. We know Gulae is smiling down on all her fashionistas!

Ramadan Meal Initiative

During the month of Ramadan this year, we were able to provide….

OVER 1,000 MEAL PACKAGES!

The care packages consisted of enough rice, flour, tea, sugar, dates, lentils, cooking oil and other materials to make traditional home-cooked meals for the entire month.

Our initial goal for this project was to deliver 200 meal packages. With your help, we were able to exceed our wildest expectations and help so many people in need! We want to thank everyone who contributed to this great cause whether that be through spreading the word, donating, or volunteering on the ground. Please enjoy some photos from the Ramadan initiative and thank you again!

Ramadan Mubarak!
